Surry Hills Terrace

Architect: LAMA
Location: Surry Hills 2010, Sydney,  Australia
Project: Rear Extension & Attic Addition

The Surry Hills Terrace renovation in Sydney Australia reimagines a traditional terrace house through a series of carefully considered interventions that open the home to light, landscape and contemporary family living.

A new rear extension expands the living areas and creates a stronger connection to the backyard, while a newly introduced central courtyard becomes the heart of the home. Positioned between the existing and new spaces, the courtyard brings natural light, greenery and ventilation into the centre of the plan, creating a seamless relationship between internal and external spaces.

The existing attic has also been repurposed as a third bedroom, making better use of the home's existing volume while increasing its functionality. Together, these interventions transform the compact terrace into a more open, connected and light-filled home, balancing the character of the existing dwelling with a contemporary approach to living.
The rear living room is extended, opening directly to the backyard through floor-to-ceiling bifold doors.
A central courtyard brings natural light deep into the interior, connecting the living spaces with the outdoors.
