We are interested in architecture that responds to what already exists—whether that means working within the character of a heritage home, adapting an existing building, or finding new possibilities within the constraints of a site. Our work is driven by a belief that thoughtful intervention can often create more meaningful outcomes than starting from scratch.
Our interest in heritage residential architecture has grown from living and working within Sydney’s Victorian housing fabric. These homes possess a strong sense of character and identity, yet were often designed for a very different way of living. We explore how they can be carefully adapted and extended to support contemporary lifestyles, creating a dialogue between the existing and the new rather than treating heritage as something static.
What We Do
LAMA is based in Sydney Australia and works across residential, commercial and small-scale development projects, exploring how design can respond to the particular opportunities and constraints of each project. We consider architecture alongside construction methodology, materiality and financial feasibility, with the aim of producing work that is both architecturally considered and achievable.
Ultimately, the practice is interested in making the most of what is already there, while creating something distinctly of its time—architecture that is contextual, purposeful and built to evolve.
