Annandale Residence

Architect: LAMA
Location: Annandale 2038, Sydney, Australia
Project: Rear Extension & Second Storey Addition

The Annandale Project in Sydney Australia is a residential alteration and addition exploring how a Victorian heritage dwelling can be carefully revitalised for contemporary family living. Developed through LAMA STUDIO, the project retains the character and architectural identity of the existing home while introducing a distinctly contemporary addition that creates a dialogue between old and new.

Located within a conservation zone on a compact site, the project responds to the practical constraints of heritage requirements, limited space and construction feasibility. These conditions have informed an exploration of alternative construction methodologies, including PVS formwork and brick-slip cladding, allowing the design to achieve a contemporary architectural expression while improving buildability within a restricted footprint.

More broadly, the Annandale Project forms part of an ongoing exploration into the revitalisation of Sydney’s heritage housing stock—considering how existing homes can be adapted, extended and reinterpreted to support the evolving needs of contemporary living without losing the qualities that make them distinctive.
